A meeting is being held today at 7 pm today, 30th January 2023, to discuss the future of the Ash Youth Centre. The meeting will be held at the Ash Centre. The following press release has been issued by Guildford Borough Council.

Help make the Ash Youth Centre happen

Are you interested in shaping the future of Ash Youth Centre? Find out how you can help in the opening of the Youth Centre. Come and join our Community Wellbeing team at 7 pm on Monday 30 January at Ash Centre, Ash Hill Road, GU12 5DP.

We are working in partnership with Surrey County Council, with residents, local councillors, and Ash Parish to open the Youth Centre for young people in Ash. So, if you’re like us and care about young people thriving in our communities, join us. We are looking for anyone with an interest in the local community to come and chat to us about how they might be able to help.

By joining us on Monday you will get the chance to:

  • have your say on launching an open-access youth club at Ash Youth Centre
  • hear more about how we plan to work with you to open Ash Youth Centre and how you can get involved
  • be a part of putting together a management committee that will make important decisions about the youth club
  • shape our management committee’s constitution

Leader of the Council and Lead Councillor for Housing and Community, Cllr Julia McShane said:

“Young people are the future of our communities. That’s why we are driving forward with our plans to open the Ash Youth Centre and we need your help to do it. We want to make sure young people are included in our community by giving them access to exciting and challenging opportunities that will help them grow into active and confident young adults.

“You don’t have to have experience working with young people to get involved. We know our residents care and are our best assets to help us create a strong group of people who can make opening the youth club a reality.

“This is an exciting opportunity to bring the community together to be a part of positive change to local young people’s lives. If you want to see a youth club open in Ash, meet our team this coming Monday. As part of the management committee, we will be looking for people to take on the roles of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. But we are also looking for other volunteers who will be key in helping us achieve our goals.”

Local Ash Vale resident, Alex Bliss said:

“The Young People of Ash and Ash Vale need the help of local residents to support the use of the wonderful Ash Youth Centre in the evenings. We need volunteers for the setting up of a Management Committee and to help at the youth club sessions. Please let’s provide a safe, fun, local environment for them to go to. We know there is a local need for this, so it would be wonderful for the local community of Ash Parish to pull together.”
