Consultation on Expansion of Ash Grange Nursery & Primary School

Ash Grange School expansion consultation

Surrey County Council has launched a public consultation on proposals to expand Ash Grange Nursery & Primary School from a one-form entry (1FE) to a two-form entry (2FE) school, beginning in September 2028.

If approved, the expansion would be delivered gradually, with the school growing year by year. Existing year groups would remain at their current size, while each new Reception intake would increase from 30 to 60 pupils from September 2028 onward.

Meeting Growing Demand for School Places

The proposal comes in response to increasing demand for primary school places in the Ash & Tongham area. Currently, there are 240 Reception places available across six local schools. However, for September 2026, there were 271 first-preference applications, 31 more applications than available places.

Ash Grange is considered a strong candidate for expansion due to its large site and central location, which places it close to the areas with the highest demand. The site is understood to have sufficient space to accommodate the expansion, making it a practical and sustainable solution to local capacity pressures.

Funding Through Developer Contributions

The proposed expansion would be funded through Section 106 (S106) developer contributions, secured from housing developments within Ash. These funds are held by Surrey County Council, and it is positive to see progress being made towards investing them back into local infrastructure to support growing communities.
