GBC Delays in supply of waste bins:
Liz Mockeridge, Waste Policy and Development Manager for Guildford Borough Council (GBC), has communicated that there is a shortage of waste bins due to the global supply chain. This follows worldwide factory shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in lack of plastics to manufacture the bins. This is compounded by a lack of worldwide shipping containers to move the materials and products for manufacture and supply.
The Council now has a large backlog of orders for the 240L green recycling bins, which it has started delivering.
Food waste caddy stock is expected imminently and will be delivered ASAP.
The delivery of brown garden waste bins are also well overdue, which will be distributed to residents as soon as possible.
As the reduction in supply of plastics is set to continue for the coming months, the Operational Services team at GBC has now ordered a range of additional containers, with an aim to mitigate a future shortage of waste bins. However, as many other councils are likely to have placed larger orders too, this may be contributing to the current delays which may continue for some time.
