No price rise for garden waste collection scheme in 2021

Brown Bin

Guildford Borough Council (GBC) has announced that there is to be no price increase for the garden waste collection scheme in 2021, which remains as an annual cost of £41 per bin. Existing subscribers will be receiving renewal notifications to continue fortnightly collections (25 collections) of a 240 litre brown bin.

If you do not currently subscribe, and you do not wish to transport your garden waste to the local Community Recycling Centre (rubbish tip) you can join the kerb side collection scheme via the GBC website https://www.guildford.gov.uk/gardenwastepay. As not all properties are suited to wheeled bins, GBC advises that assessed properties may alternatively be issued with reusable garden waste sacks. All compostable garden waste items are collected as part of the service, with the exception of soil which cannot be collected.

This service is also an attractable alternative to bonfires which may impact neighbouring properties as well as the environment. Collected waste is recycled with the majority in GBC going to the Envar site at Chertsey where it’s composted over a 12-week period and then sold commercially. Envar Composting Limited have some information on their website explaining this process.

If you are interested in home composting GBC garden waste website recommends visiting getcomposting.com where composters can be purchased directly from the manufacture.
