Alex Sanderson receives BEM in 2022 honours list

2022 Honours list

The New Year Honours list recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people right across the United Kingdom be it in public life or who have committed themselves to help their country. The 2022 list has now been published, which includes local Ash Vale resident Alex Sanderson (BEM) who has been awarded a “Medal of the Order of the British Empire”. The award states that this is credited for services to the community in Ash Vale, particularly during Covid-19.

Alex Sanderson is a well known and respected resident due to her continued efforts to better the community and to help those in need. In the New Year Honours List 2022, published by the Cabinet Office, her efforts have been recognised stating:

“Alexandra Mary Sanderson. For services to the community in Ash Vale, Surrey particularly during Covid-19. (Ash Vale, Surrey)”

The honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life and committed themselves to serving and helping the UK. The BEM is a British and Commonwealth award for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. The current honour was created in 1922 to replace the original medal, which had been established in 1917 as part of the Order of the British Empire. Since June 2012, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, this award is now only given to the civil division.

Recipients of this award are entitled to use the post-nominal letters “BEM”. Postnominals are letters placed following a person’s last name to indicate education qualifications, title of office, decoration or honour. Postnominals include abbreviations of an award or awarding institution.
