Rapid home testing:
The UK Government is offering free rapid lateral flow home test kits which can be ordered online or collected from your nearest test centre. They advise that these kits are for your household, childcare bubble or support bubble if at least one member:
- is a school, nursery or college pupil
- works in a school, nursery or college (this includes temporary workers or volunteers)
- works in an occupation related to a school, nursery or college
Why is this needed
The vaccination program is well under way, however we are advised to stay alert. As we enter Step One many of us will be exploring the new roadmap out of lock down and meeting safely with family & friends. I, like many of our residents, will be vaccinated towards the end of the program as those whom are at most risk are rightly vaccinated first. My family does have young children at School, and we plan to take advantaged of rapid home testing to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
About this test
The guidance provided as part of the test advises that many people with COVID-19 have mild, or even no, symptoms. These people however, can still spread the virus. With regular self testing, we can slow the spread and help protect the most vulnerable in our families and communities.
The rapid lateral flow home test kits are for you if:
- you live in England
- you do not have coronavirus symptoms
- you have not been told to self-isolate
- you or someone in your household, childcare or support bubble attends a primary school, a nursery, a secondary school, a sixth form, a college, or works at one
- you cannot get tests from a test site or your work
This test is suitable for the following people:
Adults aged 18+: Self -test and report, with assistance if needed.
Adolescents Aged 12-17: Self-test and report with adult supervision. The adult may conduct the test as necessary.
Children under 12: Children under 12 years old should be tested by an adult. Do not conduct this test if you do not feel confident testing a child. Do not continue the test if the child feels any pain.
Full guidance is provided within each test pack.
