2024 Summer Reading Challenge

To launch the Summer Reading Challenge 2024, Ash Library is hosting an event on Saturday 6th July, with Author Tom Easton. The event costs £4 per child which can be booked online via Eventbrite.

The Challenge a free holiday activity for children, which encourages reading for fun to improve children’s reading skills and confidence. All children aged 4-11 are invited to take part, and there’s a Mini Challenge for younger children. Children can read anything they like, including print books, audiobooks, graphic novels, eBooks and Audiobooks (both available to borrow from Libby and BorrowBox, free for all library users). The Challenge is to read six books over the summer, with a prize for every book! The Summer Reading Challenge is developed by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries.

Beth-Anna Varley-Ward, Library Assistant, Ash Library

This year’s theme is Marvellous Makers, which is all about creativity and imagination. There will be themed events at the library during the summer holidays, which will be advertised on our social media, website, and posters around the library. The first is a special launch event with author Tom Easton, on Saturday 6th July at 2.15 pm. Tom will be talking about his funny books for middle-grade readers, Hotel of the Gods, Our House and Max Magic. He’ll tell some terrible jokes and may even perform a couple of magic tricks, very badly!

How to book tickets

This event is suitable for ages 7-11 and costs £4 per child. Tickets can be booked on Eventbrite: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/summer-reading-challenge-launch-event-with-author-tom-easton-at-ash-library-tickets-916134883097

We can also take bookings at the library helpdesk if required.

Children will be able to come to the library and sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge from Saturday 6th July. They just need to tell us a little about each book they’ve read to receive their prizes. We can’t wait to hear all about what they’ve been reading and to have fun at our events – it’s going to be a busy summer at Ash Library!
