About CHIPS

CHIPS provides quality school holiday play provision for children currently in Years 1-6 in the Guildford borough. They operate for four weeks during the summer holidays and for one week at Easter from 9 am until 4.30 pm. During the summer they run from two separate schools for two weeks in each.

Due to the need for a quality school holiday play provision for children in the Ash/Ash Wharf and Tongham wards, CHIPS set up a playscheme there in 2021 and ran a pilot scheme from Walsh Infant School for four days of the summer holidays in 2021 which was a great success.

CHIPS began in 2004 due to the results of a feasibility study with the local community. Their ongoing self-evaluation (recognised as excellent by Ofsted) allows them to be responsive to what the community wants.

Evidence to support the above includes two outstanding Ofsted inspections, positive feedback from parents, carers, children, playworkers, volunteers and community members including councillors, head teachers and family workers and the continued high volume of applications for the scheme. Two-thirds of the families coming to CHIPS have also used them before.
