The Basingstoke Canal Society (BCS) are guardians of the Basingstoke Canal and have been promoting and campaigning for its future since 1966. The Basingstoke Canal Authority, which is responsible for the upkeep of the canal, reports that it continues to struggle to raise the funding needed to maintain the Canal and currently faces a shortfall of over £100,000 . The BCS warns that the survival of the Canal is at risk. As such it has taken action to involve the Community and local businesses with their campaign ‘Keep your Canal Alive’. You can become a member for £15 per year or make a one-off donation. Visit basingstoke-canal.org.uk/keep-your-canal-alive for more information.

The Basingstoke Canal Society are guardians of the Basingstoke Canal and have been promoting and campaigning for it’s future since 1966. It’s a wonderful organisation and many people involved have been so since the very beginning so we have a lot of knowledgeable local people in our midst.
The Basingstoke Canal Authority who are responsible for the upkeep of the canal continues to face funding cuts by cash strapped councils and funding has been reduced further leaving a £120,000 shortfall so the survival of the Canal is at risk.
We are already taking action to involve the Community and local businesses with our campaign ‘Keep your Canal Alive’.
The BCS currently has over 290 volunteers doing over 28,000 hours work per year. Volunteers are critical to keeping the canal alive and available to all to use for exercise, sport, relaxation, etc. It’s a fantastic local amenity but without our collective help is at risk of falling back into disuse.
Below are some of the exciting and vital key role vacancies which we urgently require volunteers for.
