Festive Family Fun Day
Roll up! Roll up! Get ready for a free Festive Family Fun Day, with lots of activities, performances and magical moments to enjoy across Guildford town centre all for free or low-cost.
In the High Street, you can catch a Christmas snowflake, chase the cheeky elf’s giant bubbles or test your strength and throwing skills in one of our free fairground sideshow stalls. After that, get creative with GU Arts in Swan Lane at a free Christmas card-making workshop. Face painting will also be available here at a reduced cost.
Free street performances from local artists, bands and groups will bring Tungstate Arch and the Surrey Scholar statue to life throughout the day. You can sing along with the Rock Choir, laugh with the Electric Theatre’s Flint Street Nativity, or hear your favourite carols played out by the Almac Bisley Brass Band, to name a few.
Nearby, in Tunsgate, you can also experience the thrill of arctic exploration. Put on a helmet and head torch to explore the Ice Cave’s 90 feet of tunnels. Free and suitable for all ages from 5 years and upwards.
At the Guildhall, the excellent Guildford Shakespeare Company are running free workshops for children aged 7 to 12. Based on the classic tale of the Snow Queen, participants will learn the story and then perform it to their friends and family. Places at the workshops are limited, so advanced booking is highly recommended. The bookings website link will go live here on Monday 7 November at 11 am.
We have a fantastic free photo opportunity as our Giant Snow Globe makes a welcome return to Phoenix Court for the weekend. Join the fun of the festive fair in Friary Street where there will be face painting, candy floss and a merry-go-round (at a reduced cost). There are also many characters to meet in the streets; everything from Alice and The Mad Hatter to Christmas Crackers telling jokes!
Whilst enjoying the entertainment, don’t forget to make a start on the Christmas shopping in our wonderful and varied range of town centre shops. Grab Experience Guildford’s Little Book of Offers for a range of discounts. There will also be a superb array of food, drink and gifts on sale at the festive and vegan markets (both on High Street).
