Residents of Ash, Ash Vale and Ash Green have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Ash Neighbourhood Plan, securing its approval in the referendum held on 29 October 2026.
The result saw 1,915 residents vote “Yes” (88.86%), with 236 voting “No” (10.95%) and 4 ballot papers rejected (0.19%). A total of 2,155 votes were cast from an electorate of 15,249, representing a 14.13% turnout.
The result means the Ash Neighbourhood Plan has comfortably exceeded the requirement for more than 50% of voters to support the proposal and can now proceed to formal adoption by Guildford Borough Council.
The Ash Neighbourhood Plan has been developed by Ash Parish Council following extensive consultation with residents, businesses and local organisations. It sets out a community-led vision for the future of Ash, Ash Vale and Ash Green through to 2045.
Key elements of the Plan include the protection of 33 Local Green Spaces, safeguarding valued community facilities, supporting local employment opportunities, encouraging walking and cycling, promoting sustainable development and ensuring future growth respects the distinct character of local neighbourhoods.
Once formally adopted, the Plan will become part of the statutory development plan used in determining planning applications, giving additional weight to policies written specifically for the communities of Ash, Ash Vale and Ash Green.
The result will now act as strong democratic mandate for local people to have a greater say in shaping future development across the parish.
